Ian Parmenter
Having produced and directed programs for ABCTV for two decades Ian Parmenter was thrust in front of the camera in 1992 to present Consuming Passions, a hugely popular food show that spanned 450 episodes over 10 years in Australia and 15 other countries.
In 1995/6 he won two major international prizes for Consuming Passions at the Festivale Tele-Gourmande in France, including the Grand Prix. The following year (1997) Ian initiated Tasting Australia, which attracts media and food professionals from around the world to Adelaide to experience the best Australia has to offer.
Ian has 12 recipe collections to his credit and an award-winning book of memoirs. He is a regular contributor to Australia’s Selector magazine.
A strong believer in promoting Australian chefs and food producers overseas, Ian is also a major player in the G’DAY USA campaign.
A founding member of the Margaret River Food Group and a member of the Slow Food Movement, Ian is WA ambassador for the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation.
He wants to give all young people a chance “to discover where their food comes from and to enjoy the pleasures of the table”.
